Essential Duties

- Takes mail and picks up mail at campus post office. Stamps, sorts, and distributes mail.
-Checks in any journals, newspapers, and serials using the integrated library system (Sirsi).
-Distributes new materials for cataloging to the appropriate staff member.
-Labels materials after cataloging or as needed.
-Assists in processing materials including sorting and shelving.
-Shelves new materials.
-Acts as a front-line receptionist, overseeing the Reading Room for Archives & Special Collections.
-Retrieves and stores materials as needed from the automated storage and retrieval system (ASRS).
-Scans materials for patron use from archives or microform.
-Data entry.
-Answers basic patron questions regarding collections and finding aids.
-Assists patrons with scanning and microform machines.
-Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED required; some college or technical school coursework and/or practical knowledge required; at least one year of experience required; experience working in a professional environment required; competency in Word, Excel, and Internet searching required.

Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is frequently required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, feel, or reach with hands and arms, and to talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Job Description Summary

This position supports Fant Memorial Library’s Beulah Culbertson Archives & Special Collections Department and Technical Services Department by retrieving mail, checking in, labeling, shelving, and otherwise processing library materials. Additionally, this position will staff the library’s Archives and Special Collections Reading Room, working with the Archivist and Special Collections Librarian to provide assistance to researchers by retrieving materials and navigating finding aids.
